This one-bedroom, open-plan granny flat was custom-designed and built by the experienced team at P J Cook Building. The brief was to create a modern “mini home” for the owners’ parents, who wanted to downsize and live closer to their daughter and grandchildren.

The design prioritises comfort, privacy, and easy living, featuring level access, generous storage, and low-maintenance finishes. Adding a granny flat proved to be the perfect solution, keeping family close while providing independence in a high-quality new home.

This project included raked and square-set ceilings, a galley kitchen with waterfall stone benchtops, LED glass display cabinetry, a glass splashback, and upgraded pantry fittings. The en-suite adds full-height tiling, a frameless shower with a niche and strip drain, tile insert drains, and a quality wall-mounted vanity. Further scope includes luxury vinyl planks, premium carpet, split-system air conditioning, downlights, and ceiling fans, a separate laundry with a second toilet, detailed exterior cladding with square architraves, a split skillion gable roofline, and a covered alfresco—total construction cost (as of 2020): $190,561, excluding landscaping.
